John Beatt was couper in the parish of Cargill, 1654 (Dunblane), Thomas Beat is in record in Peathill, parish of Kettill. 1655 and three more of the name are in the vicinity (St. Andrews). William Beet, blacksmith in Aberdeen, 1791 (Aberdeen CR.). The origin for the name offered by Mr. J. M Beatts (SN&Q., XI, p. 156) is too silly for credence.
