(English) Bellfounder. [Middle English bel- yetere, &c.; Middle English bel(le, Old English belle, a bell + a derivative of Middle English yeten, Old English geótan, to cast] Robert le Belyetere.—Close Rolls.

(French) Beggar, Vagabond. [Anglo-French bellyter, French bélître]

Surnames of the United Kingdom (1912) by Henry Harrison

Apparently a bell-founder. The Promptorium has bellezeter (Halliw.), which Mr. Way derives from the Anglo-Saxon zeotere, fusor. "Zetynge of metelle, as bellys, fusio." The old name of Billiter Lane, in London, was originally "Belzettar's Lane" (Stowe), doubtless from the bell-founding trade there carried on.
