From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
The Bindon family settled at Ballyneclough, Co. Tipperary about 1580. They have however, been principally associated with Limerick and Co. Clare. Henry Bindon (d.1664) a grandson of David Bindon the first settler, was mayor of Limerick; in 1670, his grandson, David, acquired the property of Clooney, Co. It is perpetuated in Bindon Street, Ennis. There were two outstanding Claremen of the name. Francis Bindon (c. 1690-1765), architect of many famous country houses of the Georgian period and also remembered particularly for his protraits of Swift and other celebrities. His father was M.P. for Clare and one of his brothers, David, was a writer on economics, while another was Dean of Limerick. Samuel Henry Bindon (1812-1879) barrister, was secretary to the Tenants League 1846; later he emigrated to Australia where, having distinguished himself at the bar, he became a cabinet minister and judge.
Though the Bindons first settled in Co. Tipperary in 1580 the family has since the following century been prominently associated with Co. Clare. SIF 17
