BLACKDEAN: From the place of this name in Morebattle parish, Roxburghshire. About the year 1200 Henry de Blachedene witnessed a charter by Cecilia de Molle (Kelso, 148). In 1358 William of Blackdene, son and heir of Christian of Blackdene, granted the forest of Eteryk to John Kerre (HMC., 14. Rep,, App. pt. 3, p. 8). In 1560 there is entry of sasine of land in Roxburghshire to James Blaikden (ER., XIX, p. 464). George Blackdoune in Newtone of Coldstreame, 1685 (RPC., 3. ser. X, p. 480).
