From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

BLANTYRE: Of territorial origin from the barony of the same name in Lanarkshire. Stephen de Blantyre witnessed a grant to the Abbey of Cambuskenneth c. 1200 (Cambus., 81). About 1248 Maldouny, earl of Levenax granted to Stephen de Blantyr "totam medietatem carucate terre de Kynerine, videlicet illam medietatem in qua ecclesia fundata est, que scotice vocatur Lecheracherach et advocationem dicte ecclesie de Kynherine" (Levenax, p. 36). An inquest of mortancestry of Patrick Blantthyre, son of Stephen de Blantthyre, dated 1263, is printed in the Acts of Parliament of Scotland (I, p. 102). Patrick de Blauntire of Stirlingshire rendered homage in 1296. His seal bears a boar passant to sinister, a crab below and serpent above, and S' Patricii de Biauntir (Bain, II, p. 208,542). In 1304 a writ was issued to the Jisliop of Durham to restore to Agnes de Blantyr her dower lands of Norham Liberty (ibid., II, p. 415). Walter de Blanctire is mentioned as a Friar preacher and king's confessor in 1343 (Pap. Pet., p. 33), John of Blanteir, a Scottish merchant, had a safe conduct to enter England in 1426 (Bain, IV, 999), and David Blantyre had a gift of the escheat of Alexander Abirkeirdo in Angus in 1531 (RSS., II, 1026).
