'Pleykstare, candidarius'; 'whytstare or pleykstare, candidarius, candidaria'; 'bleystare or wytstare (bleykester, or whytster), candidarius' (Prompt. Parv). Robert Blaxter appeared as defendant in a Norfolk case at the close of the 16th century (Proceedings in Chancery, Elizabeth, 1). Both Blaxter and Blackistor still exist. For masculine form, v. Blacker (a).
