William de la Blamyre mentioned in 1247 (Wetherhal, p. 246) is probably the William de Blamyre who held six acres near Carlyle in 1250 (Bain, I, 1787). A writ was directed to the sheriff of Northumberland in 1304 in favor of Peter de Glynquym, heir of Johanna de Blamyr his mother (ibid., II, p. 415). Susanna Blamire (1747—1794), Cumberland poetess, wrote many popular Scottish pieces. Of local origin from some place of the name, perhaps in Cumberland.
