Lower, writing about Blunderfield (v. London Directory), says: 'A corruption of Blondeville. This awkward and unpromising name was borne some years ago by a farming bailiff at Bayfield Hall, Norfolk' (Patronymica Britannica). Oddly enough he does not recognize Bloomfield as a corruption. He says, 'Bloomfield, a village in Worcestershire, and probably other localities. Norfolk has long been the greatest habitat of the name' (ibid.). Of course Bloomfield in Worcestershire, and Cumberland may have given rise to families of this name, but in nine cases out of ten the derivation given above will apply, and is absolutely correct of the East-Anglian representatives.
