Boden), Bod-kin (q. v.), and Baud-et. It is only by realizing the enormous popularity of Baldwin that we can understand the marvellous impress it has made on hereditary nomenclature. Perhaps in some cases Body or Boddy represented the diminutive Baudet, of which I furnish an instance.

Andrew Body was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1494, Robert Bawdy in 1548, and Patrick Bodie in 1593 (NSCM., I, p. 37, 61, 84). Mr. Gilbert Bodie "a drunken Orkney asse" was a member of the General Assembly which met at Dundee, 1597—8 (William Scot, Apologetical narration, p. 103), and James Body was heir by conquest of Master Gilbert Bodye minister of the church of Holme in Orkney, in the vill and lands of Cragquhorthie in the parish of Kinkell, Aberdeenshire, in 1608 (Retours, Aberdeen, 118). Patrick Bodie in Pitterheid (Peterhead) 1633 (SCM., III, p. 102), Andrew Bodie in Dysart, 1645 (PBK., p. 281), and Christian Bodie in Edinburgh, 1647 (Edinb. Marr.). The surname is common in the Aberdeen Poll Book of 1696. James Boddie and Thomas Boddie of Marnoch served in the first Great War (Turriff). Guppy (p. 287) has Boddy as a Norfolk surname, and says it occurs in Cambridgeshire, Hunts, and Oxfordshire in thirteenth century.

Two incumbents of Buckenham Parva and Hemlington, in the beginning of the 15th century, were named Body (Bl.). The name of Body occurred in Cambridgeshire, Hunts, and Oxfordshire in the 13th century (H. R). In its early form of Body it is also now represented in Cornwall.
