In the forms Boumil, Boumila, Bomil, and Boumila, they are generally only found in America, although they derive from the Lithuanian spelling Baumila or Baumilas. Most carriers of this names in 19th century (and earlier) records live near the town of Papariciai (more specically, the village of Miciunai).

The 'o' variant of the spelling (vs. the 'a' in modern Lithuanian) reflect the Polonized or Russified spelling of the last name, as church records were maintained in either of these 2 records and most holders of the last name likely couldn't read or write.
