William Borovman held a land in Montrose in 1437 (REB., II, p. 56). John Borowman was one of an inquest to determine the rights of pasturage which the Temple lands had over the adjoining town and territory of Letter in 1461 (Strathendrick, p. 222). William Borrowman was a baker in Edinburgh, 1673 (Edinb. Marr.), and John Borrowman is recorded in Neather Stewartoune, 1696 (Inquis., 7757). In old Scots a borrowman was a burgess, or burgage tenant.
