From Boyne near Portsoy in Banffshire, an ancient thanedom. Patrick Boyne rendered to Exchequer the accounts of the bailies of the burgh of Forres in 1556 (ER., XIX, p. 11). Catherine Boyne was tenant of the lands of Auchincloich in 1571 (RRM., III, p. 299), Thomas Boyn was one of an inquest in Shetland in 1577 (RPC., II, p. 657), and Alexander Boyne was burgess of Elgin in 1591 (ibid., IV, p. 637). Thomas Boyne in Skallowaybanks, parish of Tingwall, is in record in 1613 (Shetland), James Boyn was merchant in Elgin, 1685 (RPC., 3. ser. X. p. 389), Frank Boyne from Monquhitter was killed in the first Great War, and Francis Boyne and his sister Jean, from Forgue, served in the same war (Turriff). Boynd 1685.
