Some Turkish and Mongol tribes are believed to have derived from this creature. One of the predominant legends featuring the Bozkurt is the Gokturk Legend. The Bozkurt wolf protected and raised Gunmo, one of sixteen brothers to Kağan Pu, and son of a Khan, and is referred to as his mother. Gunmo's upbringing with a wolf had given him command of wind and rain, he prevailed in many battles, and he was very fertile - which is why he is revered in legends.
