Andrew Branch and Matthew Branche were admitted burgesses of Aberdeen, 1474 and 1497 (NSCM., I, p. 24, 38), and Andrew Branche, perhaps he already named, was a councillor there, 1492 (CRA., p. 48 Dene David Brance or Brenche was a monk of Paisley, 1563 (Trials, I, p. 429), James Branche was a witness in Aberdeen, 1571 (SCM., II, p. 38), and Thomas Branch, burgess, died in 1574. John Branche in Wilkeistoun, parish of St. Andrews, 1593, and two more of the name are recorded (St. Andrews). The name occurs in Edinburgh from 1614 onwards as Bransh, Brainch, Brench, Brenche, and Bransche (Edinb. Marr.), and possibly Branische found there in 1599 is but another spelling of the name.
