BROG: John Brog, burgess of Abirbrothoc, witnessed an indenture relating to the Abbey of Arnbroath, 1394 (RAA., II, 43), and William Broge witnessed a charter by John Ramsay, burgess of Montrose, 1430 (REB., II, 33). Robert Brog was subprior of St. Andrews, 1440 (RD., p. 300), and William Broge was member of the burgh council of Stirling, 1603 (SBR., p. 283). Jonet Brog was heir of dominus Willelmus Brog in 1636 (Inquis., 2216), and the name is also recorded in Edinburgh in 1659 (Edinb. Man.). Stodart (II, p. 106) gives seventeenth century spellings Brog, Broge, and Broig, and mentions Braug of Mooresk (Aquhorsk). William Broge was servant to Alexander Stewart of Auchlunchait 1747 (Moray).
