This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Bramhall,' formerly also Bromale, a township in the parish of Stockport. The variants are of a natural character. The 'd' in Brammald is, of course, excrescent; compare Simmonds for Simmons, Bryant for Bryan. The form Broomhall is a reminiscence of Bromale, as already stated, an early spelling.
