A small village and manor in the parish of Bakewell, co. Derby, anciently written Brightrithfield and Brithrithtfield (quasi, "the field of Brihteric"-an Anglo-Saxon personal name). The family have long been located about Eyam, a few miles distant, and they have ever been remarkable for their paucity of numbers.
