A Border surname which occurs seven times in the Fiodden Roll (1513) of the Burgesses of Selkirk. Phelippe de Briden of Roxburghshire rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 200). John Bridin (Bridyne, or Bridynne) appears as presbyter and notary public in Glasgow, 1527 and 1548 (Pollok, I, p. 256; LCD., p. 63). William Brydane, common clerk of Selkirk, 1590 (RPC., IV, p. 481). John Biyddin in Lessuddine, 1662 (RRM., II, p. 45). A pension was paid to Isobel Bryden in Edinburgh, 1730 (Guildry, p. 136).
