Patrick de Botyl of the county of Dunfres who rendered homage in 1296 appears to be Patrick Mac Gilbochin (which see) (Bain, 11. p. 198,541, 545). Thomas de Butyl, bachelor of canon law, who petitioned for a benefice in Whithern, 1399 (Pap. Pet., 1, p. 574) was the Thomas de Butil (d. 1422), archdeacon of Whitherne, later bishop of Candida Casa (Dowden, p. 367—368).
