Bulfin Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

Much searching and enquiry has failed to discover any positive evidence regarding the origin of this name. I provisionally accept the suggestion that it is a variant of the surname Bullfinch now extant in America but, according to Bardsley, obsolete in England. Nor can I state when it first came to Ireland.

Since the beginning of the nineteenth century it has been continuously in Co. Offaly. Thence came William Bulfin (1862-1910) who was born and died at Birr. He is best known for his Rambles in Erinn but spent most of his life as a journalist in Argentina where he lost no opportunity of furthering the cause of Ireland.
