From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

A surname peculiar to Perth and neighborhood, and found in Perth so early as first half of the fifteenth century. Alexander Bunshe held a land in the burgh in 1444 (Milne, p. 30). William Bunch also held land there and John Bunche was witness there c. 1450 (Scon, p. 188,189). Duncan Bunche, vicar of Wystone, was principal regent of the faculty of arts in the 'studium" of Glasgow in 1459 (RUG., I, p. 13). William Bunche was abbot of Kilwinning in 1474 (REG., 404), and Alexander Bunsch, a Scottish merchant, received a payment in the same year (Bain, XV, 1412). John Bunche was sheriff of Perth in 1505 (Milne, p. 14), and Andro Bunch, burgess of Perth in 1508 may be the Andrew Bunche who held a tenement in the same town in 1524 (Rent. Dunk., p. 3; Scon, p. 203). Walter Bunchss was a monk of Cupar in 1500 (REB., I, 220), Johannes Bonche or Bounche appears as witness at Scone, 1556 and 1566 (REM., p. 395,403), Alexander Bunche was witness in Perth, 1546, and Sir Walter Bunsche chaplain there, 1551 (Rollok, 42, 86), and the name occurs in Arnbroath in 1521 as Bownche (RAA., II, 573).
