William Burges was admitted burgess of Aberdeen in 1475 (NSCM., I, p. 25), and Jennet Burgess and John Burgesse were examined for the Test in Tinwald in 1685 (RPC,, 3. ser. XI, p. 433). The old Orkney surname of Burgar has become Burgess.
