Anciently written Buci, Bussi, &c., probably from Boussei, a place in the arrondissement of Evreux, in Normandy. Robert de Boci was a tenant in chief in co. Northampt. Domesd. One of the same family gave the suffix to Kingston-Buci or Bowsey, co. Sussex.

The name occurs in Lincoln and Normandy 1165, Northants 13th cent., Leicester 13th to 15th cent. In 1300, Sir Hugh de Busseye, of Lincoln, bore arg. three bars sable.
