Bøgedal Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

The literal meaning is "valley of beech". Bøgedal was originally a farm located in the lush valleys, populated by beech forests, surrounding the Danish "Heaven Mountain". The farm exists to this day, albeit devoid of the original buildings, which burnt down during the previous century. The then owner of the farm wrote the King of Denmark to ask permission to use the name as the family name. The King of Denmark granted the permission in writing and henceforth this one family, and its descendant, has been known as Bøgedal. Today it is equally common as a middlename.
