Ancient name found in Catalonia, Galicia, and Aragon. Village named Cabreira located near Tuy. Derived from latin "caprarius" - a goat herd, or keeper of goats.

Galician family descended from knight Sancho (el Velloso) born in 978 and natural son of don Ramiro III of Leon. One branch established in Catalonia and another in Cordoba during Reconquest.
