Calway Surname Definition:

This surname is derived from a geographical locality. Not as suggested by Lower, a corruption of Galloway (though, considering the fact that C and G are so constantly interchangeable, the idea was sensible enough), but a surname derived from some small locality in Devon or Cornwall, which I can not identify.

Calway Surname Meaning

From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

This surname is derived from a geographical locality. Not as suggested by Lower, a corruption of Galloway (though, considering the fact that C and G are so constantly interchangeable, the idea was sensible enough), but a surname derived from some small locality in Devon or Cornwall, which I can not identify. The middle syllable is probably intrusive. compare Cutaway and Greenaway for Otway and Greenway. The suffix is, no doubt, way, a road, a path.
