From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
CAMBO: From the lands of Cambo in the parish of Kingsbarns, Fife. Willelmus de Camboc witnessed the gift of fifteen acres of Balmulinauch (Balmerino) to the church of St. Andrews before 1225 (RPSA., p. 272). Johannes filius Willelmi de Camboc in Caral (Crail), 1288 (RAA., I, p. 270). Walter de Cambok or de Camehou (for Camebou) was warden of the county of Fife in 1294 (Bain, 11,701, 708). Johan de Cambhou of Fife, who rendered homage in 1296, was probably Sir John de Cambhou, one of the Scots prisoners summarily executed by the English at Newcastle in 1306. His seal bears a hare or rabbit at foot of tree, bird in top, and S' Johis de Camboc (ibid., p. 204,485, 549). Thomas de Cambow had from Robert I a charter of the lands of Grosmanstoun in tenement of Crail, and William de Cambow a charter of the lands of Cambow (RMS., I, App. II, 636,637), and Alexander de Camboch was rector of the church of Ochermukedy (Auchtermuchty) in 1358 (ibid., I, App. I, 141). Sir William de Kambov witnessed a charter by the bishop of St. Andrews in 1327 (LSC., 90).
