From the old lands of Campsie in the parish of the same name in Stirlingshire. Finlay de Campsy or de Camsi, son of Robert de Campsy witnessed several charters by Malcolm and Donald, earls of Lennox about the middle of the fourteenth century (Levenax, p. 24, 48, 49, 54, 62, 93, 95). About 1350 he had a charter of Balecorrach and other lands from Donald, earl of Lennox (ibid., p. 52). In 1382 mention is made of land of quondam John Campsy in Aberdeen (RMS., I, 682). lone Campsy was a burgess of Inverness in 1449 (Mackintosh, Inverness, p. 117), and Alexander Campsy was declared innocent of part in the detention of King James III in Edinburgh Castle in 1482 (The Lennox, II, p. 123). Hugh of Camsy was tenant of lands of Camsy, 1471 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 220). Patrick Campsy was tenant of Petlundy and Hiltoune alias Ballnaknok in 1504 (ER., XII, p. 661), and James Campsie was tenant of Priestfield in 1791 (Dunblane).
