John de Cantelou swore fealty in 1291 and in 1296 Sir John de Cantelou, probably the same person, rendered homage Bain, II, p. 196). Robert de Cauntelou was constable of Lochmaben Castle in the English service, 1298 (ibid., p. 270). About the same time William de Cantilupe served in Scotland under Edward I, and William de Cantilupe was at the siege of Caerlaverock (Stodart, II, p. 302).
