Caparros Surname Meaning

User-submitted Reference

An old surname, quite frequent and registered mainly in Catalonia, east of Andalusia, Murcia and Alicante. Caparrós can come, on the one hand, from the Catalan-Aragonese caparrós voice, caparrosa, copper sulfate, used in medicine and dry cleaning, as a nickname applied to people who collected or sold caparrosa, or from the place name Caparroso, name of a locality in Navarre, of the Basque kapar(ra) (bramble).

Already in the sixteenth century were those of this lineage in the prov. of Murcia, because before the Royal Chancery of Granada he proved his nobility Ginés de Caparrós, neighbor of the town of Caravaca, who obtained favorable ruling in 1599. Natural of Granada was José María Caparrós, literary man and journalist, who published at the end of the 19th century (1800s) a novel entitled Memorias de un collegial del Sacro Monte, which achieved great success. In the General Military Archive of Segovia, the files of José María Caparrós, Infantería, 1814, Noble, among others, are kept; José Caparrós y Gálvez, Infantería, 1807, Noble, and Antonio Caparrós de Villar, Infantry, 1810, Noble.

The first Caparrós that has been investigated is in the Municipal Archive of Vera, and it is Ginés Caparrós (it appears in the second distribution of lands, 1516). Hernando Caparrós is next (deceased in 1544), married to Fernanda de Roca (of Lorca) and Catalina de Teruel (second wife). Testament in notarial protocols of the Provincial Archive of Almería. Vera was the first conquered enclave of the Kingdom of Granada in 1488, so Caparrós must come from the east, Kingdom of Murcia.Mormons also place Caparrós at the beginning of the sixteenth century in Cartagena.

Unless proven otherwise, it appears this surname Caparrós of Catalonia comes from the immigration of these peoples towards the north since the mining crisis, since 1900.
