CARALDUS: Karaldus or Kereldus who appears as judex or dempster of Angus between 1226 and 1251 (RAA., I, p. 94,162, 263), was probably Kereld, father of the widow Forveleth, who made a grant of the land of Hachenkerach in Buthehulle (Bonhill) to the church of Glasgow, c. 1270 (REG., p. 145). Matheus Caraldus was one of the canons deputed to elect the bishop of Dunkeld, 1312 (Theiner, 398; Pap. Lett., II, p. 96). The dwelling of Keraldus received the name of Keraldistun, now Caraldston (in local pronunciation, Careston).
