William Cardun held lands in Essex in 1086. In 1165 the family was seated in Hants, Norfolk, Beds, and Lincoln (Liber Niger); temp. John in Bucks; and 1325, Adam Cardun wasM.P. for Notts. Hence the Baronets Carden.
