It is a mere guess. Cariss and Carass seem to be Yorkshire corruptions; compare Loftus, Bacchus, Kirkus, &c. It is quite possible carr-house may refer to the house where the car was kept. Middle English carre; Old French car or char (v. Charer, Charman, and Carman). The derivation in that case would still be local.
