William Cassy was a notary public in Brechin, 1435, and John Cassye and William Cassye were citizens of the burgh in 1531 (REB., II, 54,184). Andrew Cassy was witness in Aberdeen, 1446 (REA., I, p. 245), another Andrew Cassie was admitted burgess of the burgh in 1582 (NSCM., I, p. 78), and John Casse, piper, died there, 1583 (SCM., II, p. 55). Andrew Cassie of Quhytstryppis was heir of James Cassie there his father 1648 (Retours, Aberdeen, 292). Mr. Alexander Casse was parson of Polwart, 1652 (Lauder), and John Cassie is recorded in Kirkmill, Ayrshire, 1675 (Corsehill, p. 135). The name is also recorded in Edinburgh, 1650 (Edinb. Marr.), and William Cassie from Millbrex was killed in the first Great War (Turriff). Casie 1795. The name was derived by the late Mr. R. L. Cassie, a good Gaelic scholar, from Irish Cathusach, which may be rendered 'battle-slayer' or 'battle-sustainer.'
