Studies in Spain say Cervantes, is of Jewish origin, and that it derives from the Jewish name Servent, but by the constant persecution by Christians changed the original meaning leaving it as Cervantes. There's a community in the state of Guanajuato ( El Sabino de Salvatierra ) which tells the local story that was made up of Spanish Jews who were fleeing from Spanish persecution.
