Challand is an old Notts name. John Challand was a freeholder of Rufford in 1698 (Harl.). Mrs. Chalands or Challands, who during the early part of last century was noted in the town of Nottingham for her skill in bone - setting, died at Edwalton near that town in 1744, having lived to see the sixth generation (D.). The name is still in Nottingham.
