Changalva is a village in south-west of Iran. It could be the remnant of an old city, more than 1300 years old. Changalva is probably a Sassanid (old Persian) word, as its meaning is not known today. A group of people from this area escaped after the Arab invasion and went to India through the Persian Gulf. The other main group came to India from the center of Iran (called Parsee). Changalvas adapted themselves to where they migrated after centuries. But it seems that they still have different habits and customs to the Indians.This is reflected in their clothes and some social behavior. No written document (in Persian) is available, as at that time they were not allowed to be educated. And maybe they lost their spoken language during the time. It is interesting that in Indian document, they are known as a group who has come from outside India, and say maybe some Kurds, Arab or else, but the origin is not known.
