John the "Candelar" was appointed to bring certain Scottish jewels and writings from Berwick to London in September 1296 (Bain, II, 840). Payments to Alanus candelarius and Bridinus candelarius are recorded in 1329—30 (ER., I, p. 216,320). The London Livery Company of Tallow Chandlers was incorporated in 1463.
