Simon Clerici (Latin gen.) witnessed an instrument of resignation in Brechin in 1434 (REB., I, 65), and a booth was set to Besse Clerkson in Lanark in 1488 (Lanark, p. 1). William Clerkson, chaplain at the altar of the B. V. within the parish church of Lanark in 1500 (RSS.), is mentioned again in 1501 as Sir William Clerksone (Lanark, p. 11). John Clarksone was tenant of the bishop of Glasgow in 1513 (Rental), and John Clerksoun and Donald Clerksoun were tenants of Feris, Balcomy, in 1531 (ER., XVII, p. 668). Andro Clerksone had a special respite and protection in 1504 (Trials, I, p. 43), Charles Clerksoun in Leith acknowledged the king's coronation and the regency in 1567 (RPC., I, p. 563), Agnes Clerkson in Dirleton, East Lothian, was executed for witchcraft, 1649 (Trials, III, p. 599) and Andrew Clarksone was portioner of Holhouse, parish of Slamannan in 1685 (Stirling).
