Families of various origin. The Cliftons of Notts bore also the Norman names of De Reborso or Ribercy. Arnulf de Reburso or Rebors occurs in the Duchy 1180-95 (Mag. Rot. Scac.). Richard and Humfry Rebors 1198 (Ib.). The lordship of Reborcy or Ribercil belonged to the family of Wac, and Hugh Wac granted the church there to Longues Abbey 1168 (Gall. Christ. xi. Instr. 83, 84). His son Geoffry Wac then mentioned appears to be the Geoffry de Ribercy or de Clifton who was ancestor of this family. See Collins.
