Patronymica Cornu-Britannica (1870) by Richard Stephen Charnock

User-submitted Reference

The belief is that Peter Hill, born c.1553 probably in the district of Wendron, Cornwall, England, moved into a tenement in Wendron, to the south-east of Wendron, near to the village of Sevorgan (now Seworgan), Constantine, Cornwall. He and his children became known by their place of habitation, and, after many years the name Hill was eventually dropped. It was, however, still in use as a second Christian name into the 19th century. The tenement was included in the will of Peter's son Alexander Hill als Carnbellack as a farmhouse and dairy. In more recent times the farmhouse has been renovated and extended and the dairy converted to further accommodation, and stands in two acres of land close to the Combellack tin mine that was worked in the 19th century.

The evolution of the name became Combellack by around the late 18th century and the only variation of the name that I am aware of is the name Combellick which was taken by the family of John Combellack b.1798 and Grace Sincock who emigrated to the United States c. 1840.
