CONHEATH: From the old lands of Conheath in the parish of Caerlaverock, Dumfriesshire. Simon of Conehatheam witnessed a charter by Nicholas Corbet of the Hospital in Glendall, Northumberland, c. 1253—80 (Laing, 9). Adam de Culenhat de Killosebern made an agreement with the abbot and convent of Kelso regarding the church of Killosebern in 1281 (Kelso, 343), and about the same time he had a lease of the tithes of the parish of Closeburn for the yearly sum of 53 marks and a half (ibid., 240). The office of notary public was conferred on John de Kulvehach (for Kulnehach) of the diocese of Glasgow in 1339 (Pap. Lett,, II, p. 546), and he appears again in 1346 as John de Kulnehath (RMP., p. 10). Thomas de Culnehathe 'familiaris regis' David II had a charter from the king of the lands of Keldewod and Bourland in the sheriffdom of Dumfries in 1369 (RMS., I, 307). Payment was made to John of Colnehethe and his men at arms going to Calais on the king of England's service in 1370 (Bain, IV, 173), James Conhaith in Pairthet (= Penrith in Cumberland) in 1673 (Dumfries) may be James Conheath, tenant in the barony of Mousewall in the same year (PSAS., XXIII, p. 74). Jennet Conhath in Tinwald was examined for the Test in 1685 (RPC., 3. ser. XI, p. 435).
