The Considines originated in county Clare, Ireland where they had resided since ancient times. Throughout history, the name Considine was spelled many different ways such as: Considine, McConsidine, Considene, and MacConsidene. Unfortunately, People never kept to one way of spelling the name, they spelled it the way that it sounded. The name often changed in one generation from father to son. Sometimes, one person's name would be spelled differently for baptisms, weddings, land grants, and even on their tombstones. Considines descended from the legendary kings of Ireland circa 150 B.C. Those men were descendants of King Milesius who was the grandson of King Breoghan (Brian) who was the king of Galicia, Andalusia, Murcia, Castile and Portugal. King Milesius took a fancy of Ireland and sent his sons and army to conquer the island. The Considines came right after these kings and were among the most respected Irishmen. The Considines were direct descendants of King Domhnall Mor O'Brien, King of Munster. Considines mostly stayed within county Clare and set up several feudal systems with nobles, servants, and even armies with their own coat of arms. The name frequently changed to McConsidine which meant 'son of Considine'. In the English language, Considine is directly translated to 'descendents of Constantine?. In the seventeenth century, there were twenty-one Considine families in county Clare. In the twentieth century, there were over four hundred Considine families.
