Alexander Cornefutt had a feu charter of a sixteenth part of the lands of Balcrystie c. 1570 (RD., p. 472), and Andrew Corfuit had a charter of confirmation of Balchristie linkis in 1601 (ibid., p. 501). David Corfitt was enrolled burgess of Dundee in 1602 (Wedd., p. 171), and Alexander Cornfut, portioner of Balcristie, was retoured heir of Andro Cornfut, portioner of Balcristic, 'his gudger,' 'in the sixtein pairt of the toune and landis of Balcristie,' 1653 (Retours, Fife, 815). Janet Cornfoot or Corphat was a victim of the witchcraft superstition, being murdered in a horrible manner by the populace of Pittenweem in 1705. Probably a corruption of Cornforth, the name of a place in county Durham.
