An Orcadian surname derived from the old township of the name in Harray. The Corrigalls still hold part of the property from which they derive their surname. Wilyam Corgill was odaller of the 2d. land of Corstath in 1492, and James Corgill was tacksman of the 1d. land in How in 1503 (REO., p. 408,415.) James and Robert Corigilles are mentioned in 1572, and James, Robert, and John are mentioned in 1601 (SHR., XVII, p. 22). James Corrigill in Rendell in 1640 (MCM., II, p. 211).
