The early form of the place name was Cupermaccultin (1150, RD., p. 74) explained by Watson as 'Cupar of the sons of Ultan' (Watson I, p. 238). Euphemia Couttie is recorded in Dundee in 1610 (Brechin), and Henry Coutie in Tulliallan c. 1680 (Dunblane). In Edinburgh 1941.
