From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

CRAMINNAN: From the old barony of Craminnan in Stirlingshire. "Cremenan was a small place above Balfron, and is now no longer in existence" (Strathendrick, p. 263). Thomas de Cremenane witnessed charters by Malcolm, earl of Lennox to Arthur Galbraith and to Michael Mackessane, c. 1290 (Levenax, p. 30 43). About the same year he granted the lands of Croyne (now Croy) to Murechauich filius Kork, grandson of Alwyn, earl of Lennox, and in 1294, as Thomas de Crumenan, he is referred to in an inhibition by the bishop of Glasgow (RMP., p. 203). In 1316 he witnessed a charter by King Robert I in favor of John de Luss (Levenax, p. 22). He appears to have died in 1320, as in that year an inquisition was held at the church of Killearn in connection with the feu duties, etc., of the lands of the late Sir Thomas de Cremennane (ibid., p. 81, 82). His family terminated in heiresses (Inchaffray, p. 294).
