The name Corfield is derived from the Anglo-Saxon 'ceorfan' - 'to carve' and the Anglo-Saxon 'feld' - 'field.' Thus as a surname it means 'descendant of one from the carved field.' This is probably a reference to the river Corve, which passes though what is now Corfield Farm. An 1845 tithe map of Long Stanton parish show Corfield Farm and two fields called 'Corfield Meadow.'
This surname remains strong in Shropshire, has spread through most of England and into former British colonies.
There is a Corfhull (Corfe Hill) in Devon, but it does not appear any surnames are derived from this place.Stolen from Fore bears
