CROWBO: A nickname from Gaelic crubach, 'cripple, lame.' Tailzour Crowbo (i.e. the 'cripple tailor') was one of the tenants on lands in Strathdee in 1527 (Grant, III, p. 68). Janet and Cristan, daughters of Gillepadryk Crowbach, are mentioned in Inverness in 1561 (Rec. Inv., I, p. 53), and Beak Crowbycht was an "unfre baxter" in the same town in 1577 (ibid., p. 258).
