Marion of Croudane made complaint to the town council of Aberdeen in 1441 (CRA., p. 10), and Thomas Croudane was admitted a burgess of the same town in 1445 (NSCM., I, p. 9). Alexander Cruden (1701—1770) was author of Concordance of the Old and New Testaments. The form Crowden is current in Caithness. Other old forms of the surname given by Nisbet are Crowdan, Crowdane, and Crudane.
